Hello all,

I'm going to try and move the OMA message boards and
mailing list to a different message board/ mailing list called "Yahoo! Groups" (now incorporates egroups)
over the next week.

You can find out more information at
http://groups.yahoo.com/
and
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/oma
Yahoo Groups is a free service.

This means
- OLD messages will remain on the existing message boards
but the old message board and mailing list will cease to be
used.

- NEW messages - you can either continue to receive them via e-mail
from the new Yahoo mailing list
OR
access them over the web at Yahoo groups

YAHOO groups offers some advantages such as choosing to receive
e-mails one-by-one or daily in a digest.

I will be subscribing everyone to the YAHOO mailing list directly.
If you do not want to re-join then please accept my apologies. The
introductory YAHOO e-mail that you should get should give you the
option to unsubscribe.

The old mailing list will work for a while, but its probably best
to hold off the messages for a week, and then start to use the Yahoo
mailing list.

If anybody has any suggestions or comments about this move,
please e-mail me before the weekend at mod.oma@wwweb.org

For those of you who might be interested: the old OMA
message boards and mailing list were becoming increasingly
difficult to maintain.
Some of the main problems were: the messages were filling
up the web space; maintaining the web site was expensive;
the message board needed programming maintenance;
replies on the mailing list didn't get written to the web
site; and I was getting hundreds of e-mails a week
from messages and bouncing addresses.
I think its worth giving Yahoo Groups a go to see what it
can offer as a replacement for the message boards/ mailing
list, but still in collaboration with the main OMA web site,
which will remain.

Some of the steps that I will be carrying out are:
- Set-up the Yahoo Group for oma (oma@yahoogroups.com/
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/oma
- Transfer the mailing list subscribers from the current
mailing list to the Yahoo one (you should be receiving
e-mail notices of your new subscription)
- Turn-off the old OMA message board and mailing list
(it would get confusing running two)
- Modify the OMA web site to explain what has happened.

This may take several days, so please bear with me and
e-mail me if you have any helpful suggestions or
comments, at mod.oma@wwweb.org

Rob
