I have Duanes Syndrome as well. I read your article and found it very intersting. I don't have any hearing loss although my left eye rectracts. I was never diagnosed with this until age 18. My mother took me to all kinds of specialist and none (age4-8) could give any real explanation. I have 20/20 vision. When I was 16 and very self conscious she took me to a diff. specialist which diagnosed me with Duanes S. I thought I was on display because every intern was called in to look at me. After that, he told me there was no cure and he would contact me if so. I was also amazed when searching that this is genetically related. I have asked both sides of my family and no one can seem to remember any one with Duanes S. I told them to look at every family photo and see who is sitting to the left! I am so glad that I am not the only one who is personally shy about this disorder. I have actually adapted to standing to the left and turning my head whenever possibe so the only people who really notice are my close friends and relatives. I am 24 now and major in Psychology. Plus I love to paint and make pottery. So you are right!!
