Re: What causes Ocular Motor Apraxia?

Dear Peter,

Thank you for giving us such a thoughtful and plain-english insight into Ocular Motor Apraxia.

Our son of 9 months (Hugo) has recently been diagnosed with this condition & we have seen a myriad of specialists who do not seem to be able to give us reasons for him having this condition(other than he was born with a total absence of the cerebellar hermis)or any real long-term prognosis for his well-being. Hugo has not started to crawl as yet and does have trouble 'tracking' objects with his eyes, however, he has wonderful 'connectivity' with people by way of huge smiles (his whole face lights up!) and once he is focussed on someone seems to have no problem maintaining this contact. Hugo seems to be meeting all of his developmental milestones other than sitting up or crawling( he is a very good eater, enjoys his sisters company, & smiles and laughs consistently). Hugo was also diagnosed with 'Greig's Syndrome' at approx 6 months of age which was is also a very rare disease with symptoms of polydactly (?) of the fingers and toes (he was born with 6 digits on both hands and feet) and respiratory problems which now seem to be improving with the aid of a 'puffer'. We were wondering if you know of any link between 'Greig's Syndrome' & OCA or have heard of any other cases where these 2 conditions are prevalent?

Once again, thank you for your valuable insight into this problem and we wish you and your son all the best.

Regards
Mark Lowe
