Meredi - I know this question wasn't directed towards me, but I couldn't resist
answering it. My son (14) and daughter (10), both with OMA, are now riding
bikes - but it took a long time for the skill to develop! My son started trying to
ride around 8 but was so cautious he just couldn't let himself go farther than a
few yards without stopping, putting his feet down, and getting re-oriented. He
now rides with confidence - may not look like the average, fly-like-the-wind 14
year old boy on a bike, but he's riding! My daughter, on the other hand, even
with a more severe case of OMA than my son, persistently tried for 2 or 3
summers and started riding (fairly well) by age 9. She wobbles and
sometimes loses her balance for (what seems to an onlooker) no apparent
reason ... she does best on familiar terrain, but loves to ride. I'm certain that
her motivation came from a little friendly sibling competitiveness! I just
wanted you to know that OMA kids DO ride ... and master just about anything
else they put their minds to! We have twin daughters, 6 yrs old, also with
OMA ... and I expect they will want their training wheels taken off in the next
few years! Tell your daughter to have fun!!!!! Laura
