I am a first grade teacher who had great difficulty learning how to read in first and second grade due to a rare learning disability called visual motor apraxia. I was diagnoised with this nlearning disability in first grade by a child nuerologist. Visual motor apraxia made it very difficult to track the words on a page reading from left to right. I worked with an RSP teacher first through third grade and was reading at grade level by third grade. I would suggest taking your child to a child nuerologist and having him tested. He could have dyslexia or motor apraxia. Have your son try using a book mark under each line in the book as your child reads. If he is having trouble with tracking this will help. With a proper diagnosis and some extra help your son should be able to catch up to grade level in reading. When learning how to read it takes some children longer than others. Good luck!
