Re: Relations with Ataxia Tenalgesia

I have a 7yr old son with OMA. He is doing quite well. Beginning to read and functions fairly close with his peers. I have consitently heard reference to Ataxia Tenalgesia with OMA. Is OMA just a pre-cursor to this. My main concern with my son is his balance. He consistencly looses his balance. He has had three sprained wrists and stitches to his head two times already. Taking him to the emergency department is always an ordeāl as the doctors there are not familiar with oma and tend to look first for child abuse since he seems to have been there so many times. Luckily most of his major accidents have occured while he has been in care of Schools or Day Care. He seems to always fall on his left side. Most injuries occur on that side. When he was 3 he actually developed a calous on his left side of his head from banging it so many times. Unfortunately we could not get him to keep a helmet on full time. I guess he just wanted to be like all the other children. Still does.
